Chem Seminar

Chemistry Seminar Draft Rubric

Criteria for actual presentation (the capstone seminar includes several tasks, e.g. selecting papers, preparing slides, writing abstracts, and giving the actual presentation)

Criterion 1: Visual aids were clearly readable.

Criterion 2: Seminar is not read from note cards (they are allowed for occasional glancing.)

Criterion 3:

  • read
  • write
  • talk addresses all 5 major areas of chemistry as approved by instructor
  • spelling and grammar
  • chemical errors
  • professional attire
  • professional language
  • lasts between 30 and 45 minutes
  • is not memorized (or at least not perceived as such)
  • graphs and drawings are done professionally (not just copied and pasted in low quality unless approved by instructor)
  • talk flows nicely (= talk is well organized)
  • questions to content are answered successfully
  • questions to technical terms are answered successfully
  • required revisions as a result from the faculty conference are completed satisfactorily (as approved by instructor)
  • abstract and paper were distributed to all chemistry faculty at least one week before the presentation
  • revised abstract was distributed no later than 2 days before the presentation

Do we make this a requirement to graduate or do they just get a score?
