Fairmont State Foundation Names Director of Development

The Fairmont State Foundation has named Jessica Sell Director of Development. Sell comes to the Foundation after serving the last three years on the staff of Senator Joe Manchin following prior positions at non-profit TSEA, the University of California at Irvine and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. FaiHer appointment with the Foundation will begin in January of 2016.

Brickstreet Foundation Gift Creates $1 Million Scholarship Fund for FSU Students

A $1 million gift from BrickStreet Foundation to the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., will create a new scholarship fund for Fairmont State University students.

Greg Burton, Chief Executive Officer of BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Company, presented the gift to FSU President Maria Rose and Fairmont State Foundation President RJ Gimbl during a recognition reception at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Falcon Center. Representatives from BrickStreet and the Fairmont State Foundation, FSU deans and vice presidents were invited to attend the special event.

Buckhannon Student Receives Sgt. Todd May Memorial Scholarship

A Buckhannon student attending Fairmont State University has been awarded the 2014-2015 Sgt. Todd May Memorial Scholarship.

Aimee Knight, a senior Criminal Justice major, was presented with the scholarship during the FSU College of Liberal Arts Academic Awards Ceremony in May. She joins past scholarship recipients Cory Frasco and Tyler Hawkins.

J.Edgar Hoover Scholarship Presented to Fairmont State

A gift from The Former Agents of the FBI Foundation will help fund scholarships for Fairmont State University students.

Former Special Agent Gary L. Stoops of Little Rock, Ark., worked for many years with the National White Collar Crime Center and was instrumental in the creation of the National Security and Intelligence Program at FSU and its Open Source Intelligence Exchange (OSIX) laboratory at Fairmont State.

“I am a big believer in the need for practical experience to give students work in the real world. We’re dealing with a knowledge market,” he said.

Playwright Tom DeTitta Named 2014 Artist-in-Residence

Playwright, author and screenwriter Tom DeTitta has been named the 2014 Artist-in-Residence for Fairmont State University. With a specialty in historical drama, he has written two plays with content closely connected to this area, “Monongah,” which is about an immigrant family affected by the 1907 mine disaster, and “Street of Gold,” which is about a coal mining family in Western Pennsylvania.
