Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin helped celebrate the official opening of a new campus food bank to benefit the students of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Ruth Ann Musick Library.

Fans of the Fighting Falcons are asked to bring non-perishable food items to the first home football game on Saturday, Sept. 22, to support a new campus food bank called The Nest. Community members who bring a food item will receive free admission to the game, courtesy of the FSU Department of Athletics.

The Nest is being created to assist students at Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College.

The Fairmont State University Reads program is preparing for the fall reading enrichment program for elementary school students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Sessions will begin on Tuesday, Oct.11, and will continue each Tuesday through Nov. 15 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church on the corner of Fairmont Avenue and Fourth Street in Fairmont.

FSU Counts, a free math tutoring program offered by Fairmont State University is planning for its fall session to be held on the Fairmont campus.  The free math tutoring program is offered to students grades four through eight who are experiencing math difficulties.

 

The program is supervised by Pam Kabulski and coordinated by Donna Yergovich Nuzum. The program is structured to emphasize math homework difficulties and assist with specific math difficulties.
