Pierpont Community & Technical College and Fairmont State University classes at the Braxton County Center (Braxton High School location) and the Lewis County Center (Lewis County High School location) are cancelled for July 2, due to the power outage as a result of Friday’s storms.
The West Virginia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America honored Fairmont State University with three awards at its 2012 Crystal Awards Gala, which acknowledges the best work of 2011.
During the event at Edgewood Country Club in Charleston, 16 Crystal Awards and 12 honorable mentions were presented for campaign work. Thirty-nine Crystal Awards and 24 honorable mentions were given for project work. A record number of entries were received for this year’s competition. A few years ago, Anup Poudel could not have imagined his higher education journey from Nepal to the United States. Born in Kathmandu, a city of nearly a million people, his familiar surroundings included structures obstructing the views and streets filled with cars. The rolling hills and winding roads of West Virginia were very unfamiliar on his drive from a local airport to his future home, the Fairmont State University campus.
