Civil Engineering Student Awarded Scholarship

A Fairmont State University student was among three Civil Engineering students awarded scholarships by the North Central West Virginia Section of The American Society of Highway Engineers.

At its annual Commissioners Banquet held on April 2 at the Bridgeport Conference Center, WVDOT Secretary/Commissioner of Transportation Paul Mattox presented $1,500 scholarships to George Lynch of Fairmont State and to Brandon LeRoy and Guadalupe Leon, both of West Virginia University.

Panel Discussion to Focus on "Building the Interconnected Community"

The Instructor Exchange Ad-Hoc Committee of the Fairmont State University Faculty Senate will host a Panel Discussion on “Building the Interconnected Community” from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in Multi-Media Room A of the Ruth Ann Musick Library.

Moderated by Dr. Tad Kato, Chair of the Instructor Exchange Ad-Hoc Committee, the Panel Discussion is sponsored by the Office of the Provost at Fairmont State University. The panelists will discuss both theoretical and practical aspects of “interconnectedness” based on the perspectives in each discipline. 

FSU Students Named to Fall 2013 Dean's List and President's List

A total of 1,125 students have been named to the Dean’s List at Fairmont State University after completing the fall 2013 semester.

Dr. Christina Lavorata, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, has released the Dean’s List and the President’s List to recognize high-achieving students for their academic distinction. Full-time students who earned a 3.4 or better grade point average for the fall 2013 semester are named to the Dean’s List. Full-time students achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average are named to the President’s List.

FSU to Host 2013 FIRST LEGO League Robotics Tournament

The Fairmont State University College of Science and Technology will host the West Virginia FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) robotics tournament on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The event will take place at the Falcon Center and will be open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. More than 1,000 people, including 60 teams of students, are expected to attend.

Sponsors of this year’s challenge are NASA IV&V, Fairmont State University, WV Space Grant Consortium, Par Mar Stores, Thrasher Engineering and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

College of Science & Technology Assists Operation Welcome Home

The Fairmont State University College of Science & Technology used its high technology equipment in support of Operation Welcome Home’s Golf Scramble on Friday, Oct. 18, at Lakeview Resort in Morgantown.

Dr. Anthony Gilberti, Dean of the College of Science and Technology, and Dennis Mitchell, Academic Lab Manager, designed and created 3D composite and wood plaque combinations and donated them to Operation Welcome Home to be used as first, second and third place awards for the winners in each golf tournament category.
