Rose, a young man dressed in a tuxedo stands from behind the orchestra. As the musicians lift their instruments and the first notes are played, the young man stretches, yawns, and begins walking forward. What happens next is astonishing to all in attendance.
The Harrison County Chamber of Commerce and Fairmont State University are partnering to host a special Business After Hours reception to celebrate the Inauguration of Dr. Maria C. Rose as FSU’s 14th President.
The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Gaston Caperton Center, 501 West Main St., Clarksburg.
The Inauguration of Fairmont State University’s 14th president, Dr. Maria C. Rose, took place on Aug. 25, 2012. The traditional Inauguration ceremony included greetings from state, community and campus dignitaries, as well as musical selections from the Fairmont State University Community Orchestra, the Collegiate Singers, Vocal Tapestry and a special solo by FSU student Anthony Errigo. Chancellor Paul L. Hill of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission delivered remarks.

The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at Colebank Hall Gym on the main campus of FSU in Fairmont. The event is open to the public. As part of the Fairmont State University Presidential Lecture Series, Dr. Deanna Shields will present "Citizenship in the 21st Century: Fostering Educational Commitment."
Appalachian dulcimer virtuoso Stephen Seifert will appear in concert with the Fairmont State University Community Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 11, in the Turley Center Ballroom on the FSU campus. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
