The Instructor Exchange Ad-Hoc Committee of the Fairmont State University Faculty Senate will host a Panel Discussion on the “Role of Humanities in Contemporary Education” from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, in Multi-media Room A of the Ruth Ann Musick Library.
Moderated by Dr. Tad Kato, Chair of the Instructor Exchange Ad-Hoc Committee, the Panel Discussion is sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the College of Liberal Arts. The panelists will discuss positive roles of humanities and their interaction with science, based on the perspectives in each discipline.
The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and the Fairmont State University Office of International Student Services will sponsor the third GlobalWV Training and Networking Event on Thursday, April 10, at Fairmont State.
The themes of the event, which is also supported by the FSU Office of the Provost, are international student retention strategies and financing for nontraditional student study abroad. All colleges and universities across the state are invited to participate in the free event, which will take place in the Falcon Center third floor conference center.

The panelists will discuss both theoretical and practical aspects of “interconnectedness” based on the perspectives in each discipline.
During the Faculty Recognition event on April 24, Dr. Francene Kirk, Associate Professor of Communication and Fine Arts in the School of Fine Arts, was awarded the 2013 Abelina Suarez Professorship.

The annual Celebration of Student Scholarship will be held on the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College from 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms.
Six Fairmont State University faculty members have been nominated for the 2013 Abelina Suarez Professorship, which will be awarded during the Faculty Recognition event at noon Wednesday, April 24, in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms.
About 375 students will participate in Spring Commencement for Fairmont State University at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in the Feaster Center. Video from the ceremony will be streamed live at www.fairmontstate.edu/live.
A total of 1,060 students were named to the Dean’s List at Fairmont State University after completing the fall 2012 semester.
Dr. Christina Lavorata, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, has released the Dean’s List.
These full-time students are being recognized for academic distinction by earning a 3.4 or better grade point average for the fall 2012 semester. Full-time students achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average have been named to the President’s List.
