The City of Fairmont Utilities Stormwater Program will hold its sixth annual Stream Cleanup Day on Wednesday, April 12, in conjunction with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s 2017 Make It Shine program. Fairmont State University Construction Manager Stephanie Slaubaugh and about 15 FSU students plan to participate.
More than 20 students and community volunteers participated in the Make Marion County Shine and state DEP cleanup on the Fairmont State University campus in Fairmont on Saturday, April 18. The week also was National Volunteer Week. Organized by Stephanie Slaubaugh of the Physical Plant and Amy Drvar of the Office of Civic Engagement, the volunteers picked up 12 trash bags of litter in about two hours.
During the month of April, Fairmont State University is maroon and white – and blue – because of one family’s effort to raise awareness about autism. Corey Cleavenger, a sophomore at FSU majoring in Biology/Chemistry, had a bright idea and approached the Physical Plant that maintains the shared main campus of FSU and Pierpont Community & Technical College.
