Students from the Fairmont State University Theatre Program saw the Pittsburgh Public Theatre’s production of “The Diary of Anne Frank” adapted by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett on Sunday, Sept. 27.
Fairmont State University’s Town and Gown Players are scheduling auditions for a summer production of Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man” to take place at Prickett’s Fort State Park.
Acting and singing auditions will take place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, April 1 and 2, in Room 229 of Wallman Hall on the Fairmont State campus. An additional evening of auditions has been scheduled for Monday, April 6. Directed by Troy Snyder and Sam Spears, performances will take place on June 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20. (A rain-out performance is scheduled for June 21.)
The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts offers a gift to Fairmont with a performance of “It’s A Wonderful Life.” Based on the classic holiday film starring Jimmy Stewart, director Troy Snyder has adapted the screenplay for Readers’ Theatre.
The Town & Gown production runs Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. in the Wallman Hall Theatre. "Rocket Boys The Musical" runs Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16, at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m.; and Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 20 through 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre on the main campus of Fairmont State University. When West Virginia-born Homer Hickam stood in his backyard watching the Soviet satellite Sputnik orbit the Earth, he had no way of knowing it would lead him to a life filled with scientific discovery and artistic expression. Fans of Hickam’s work will be enchanted by the whimsical dramatization of his experiences in the Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts production of “Rocket Boys The Musical.”
Actors, singers and dancers are sought for roles in the upcoming Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts production of “The Original and True Rocket Boys.”
Directed by Troy Snyder and R.J. Nestor, performances for “The Original and True Rocket Boys” are scheduled for Nov. 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22 and 23. Other performances will be offered for public school students.
The initial spring semester theatre offering by the Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts and Masquers theatre group is Jane Anderson’s “Defying Gravity,” a fictional account of the circumstances surrounding the 1986 Challenger space shuttle explosion that killed seven crew members, among them teacher Krista McAuliffe. The story is told from the point of view of Elizabeth, the teacher’s adult daughter, as she reminisces about the events, which occurred when she was 5 years old.
The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts and the Masquers theatre group will present the first theatre performance of the academic year in September. “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” a new musical comedy, opens Friday, Sept. 21, on the Wallman Hall Stage.
