A $10,000 grant from Dominion Foundation will help Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology launch a solar energy program that has on-campus and community outreach components.

2013 Student SURE Fellows Announced

Fairmont State University has selected five student research projects for funding under the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program.

Sara Davis, Jennifer Goggins, Courtney Swiger and Ian Williams have been named to hold the University’s prestigious SURE fellowships. They each will receive a stipend of $2,400 to conduct their projects between May 13 and June 30, 2013. Completed projects will be presented at the Celebration of Student Scholarship in April 2014.

Trisels Named State Beekeepers of the Year

What began as a hobby for Don Trisel, a professor of biology at Fairmont State University, and his wife Kim has become much more over the years.

About 10 years ago, the Trisels purchased a piece of land behind their home in Farmington.

“It was all forest,” Trisel said. “We had some beekeeper friends at church, and I suggested that they come out and put some hives on our property and take advantage of that resource.”

Instead, the Trisels’ friends made another suggestion.
 

Donation from Novelis Inc. to Aid Campus Recycling Efforts

A $10,000 donation from Novelis Inc. will aid recycling efforts on the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College.

The donation was made by the Novelis Fairmont plant as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility program known as Novelis Neighbor.
