In his first night on the field as a starter for the Fighting Falcons, during the first game of the season on September 1st, 2011, Daniel Monroe III had 161 yards on 18 carries and scored two touchdowns. He was named MVP by his coaches, player of the game by a local business and WVIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Those were his first athletic accomplishments on campus.
Superlatives today are often times used so casually or cavalierly that they lose their meaning. The pepperoni roll we just ate was “the greatest” or the movie we just saw was “the best ever.”
But when it comes to athletic trainer Bob Cable, the words just don’t seem to do him enough justice. Ask any of the thousands of student-athletes that have come through his office and they’ll all tell you he is the best at what he does and they mean it. They know it and Fairmont State knows it.
And, the nation knows it as well.
Fairmont State's women's swimming team has been named a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
To qualify as a CSCAA Scholar All-America squad, teams must post a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the previous semester. Fairmont State had a team grade-point average of 3.12. The Falcons were one of 34 teams in NCAA Division II to qualify for the recognition.
Fairmont State University’s outstanding faculty members were recognized during the Faculty Achievement Reception for their exemplary efforts throughout the academic year.
Fairmont State's 2010-11 Community Engagement Initiative "Put Your Best Fairmont Forward" was recognized by the NCAA as the "Best In the Nation" at the annual Division II Community Engagement Workshop on Thursday. The concept was planned and organized around Fairmont State's football game against West Liberty that was featured on live national television on CBS College Sports.
