West Virginia’s top high school seniors have the opportunity to compete for Fairmont State University’s premier academic scholarship, the Dr. Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship.
A total of 1,128 students were named to the Dean’s List at Fairmont State University after completing the fall 2010 semester. These students are being recognized for academic distinction by earning a 3.4 or better grade point average. Students achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average also have been named to the President’s List.
On Feb. 18 and 19, Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College will host a Student Leadership Conference with the theme “Succeeding Against All Odds.”
Two upcoming performances of the play “Kindertransport,” one in Fairmont and one in Charleston, will help showcase the talent of Fairmont State University students to a statewide audience.
The Falcon Center will remain open until 7 p.m. today, Jan. 26, and will then close due to the weather conditions. The building will open at 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, weather permitting. The Dining Hall will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. today. The Nickel will close at 4 p.m. today. All other retail areas are now closed.
Visiting fiction writer Marie Manilla will read from her work, “Still Life with Plums,” at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, in the second floor student lounge of the Ruth Ann Musick Library on the Fairmont State University main campus.
Animator and cartoonist Gary Leib has been named as the 2011 Artist-in-Residence at Fairmont State University. Leib will present a public lecture at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in Multi-Media Room A of the Ruth Ann Musick Library. An opening reception for the artist’s exhibit in Brooks Gallery of Wallman Hall is planned for 7-9 p.m. that evening, and Leib will also speak about his work at that event.
