Parkersburg High School earned bragging rights as the overall champions at the Fourth Annual Engineering and Science Challenge on Friday, Sept. 23. As the school with the most first place finishes, Parkersburg took home the travelling trophy and bragging rights for the year. About 350 area high school students from 12 high schools attended and the event was hosted by Fairmont State University's College of Science & Technology.

Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College students have two opportunities to participate in a flu vaccine clinic in September. The first clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, on the second floor of the Education Building. The second clinic will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, on the second floor of the Education Building. The flu vaccine is free to students. The current exhibition of pastels and giclee prints, “Anamnesis – Okeanos” by Kathleen Holder, will be on display through Oct. 14 at Fairmont State University.

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts and Masquers theatre group will present Bernard Pomerance’s "The Elephant Man," directed by Jeffrey Ingman, on two consecutive weekends: Sept. 23, 24 and 25 and Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 1. All performances are at 7:30 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre with the exception of Sunday, Sept 25, which is a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the Box Office at (304) 367-4240.
In remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, Student Government is sponsoring an essay contest. All Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College students are eligible to enter.
