The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center on the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College will launch the new “Appalachian Italian Folk Cultural Series” with a special event on Sunday, Nov. 11.
Fairmont State University is the first university in West Virginia to be awarded a grant to host the Tournées Film Festival, held annually since 2004. The festival is a program of the French American Cultural Exchange (FACE), in partnershp with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
Six French language films have been selected for free weekly screenings open to the public from Oct. 4 through Nov. 12 on the FSU campus in Conference Room 1, located on the third floor of the Falcon Center, and Multi-media Room A of the Ruth Ann Musick Library.
The Office of International Student Services will host a Welcome Reception for International Students at the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms.
International students will be officially welcomed to the community and recognized for the new role they will play in our campus community.
The “Roads to Appalachia through Study-Travel Abroad” explored Northern Ireland in the Summer of 2012. This experience took the format of an intensive short course with multiple day trips to explore a significant portion of the six counties of Ulster which is Northern Ireland.
July 12, 2012, IBM held its first Customer Summit meeting coordinated by Don Resnick, the global director of the IBM Academic Initiative. Resnick invited customers using IBM’s Enterprise System Technology to meet with university faculty members to discuss corporate needs in the workforce and how to infuse curricula with the desired skill sets for graduates to be immediately employable. Participants included Depository Trust Clearing Corporation, Highmark West Virginia, IBM Sales & Marketing, FBI/CJIS Fingerprinting, the Department of the Treasury/Bureau of Public Debt and PNC Bank.
Nine Fairmont State University Spanish students traveled to the Bronx, New York, for a Spanish immersion and service-learning experience on May 13 through19.
The Office of International Student Services, in collaboration with the International Education Committee, will host a reception for international students who are graduating from Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College.
The event will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. Friday, May 11, in Room 303 of the Education Building. The reception is open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.
Seven graduating students from China, Japan, Nepal and the United Kingdom will be recognized and celebrated.

Nine students from Fairmont State University will travel to New York from May 13-19, 2012, with Dr. Julie Sellers for the very first immersion-style experience within the borders of the United States that the university has offered.
The Instructor Exchange Ad-Hoc Committee of the Fairmont State University Faculty Senate will host a Panel Discussion on Comparative Religion from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 23, in Multi-Media Room A of the Ruth Ann Musick Library.
