The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners (ACBSP) has reaffirmed accreditation of the undergraduate and graduate business programs at Fairmont State University.

About 200 high school juniors will participate in the 2015 Governor’s Honors Academy at Fairmont State University from June 29 through July 19. An Opening Ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 28, in Gym 1 of the Falcon Center on the main campus.

Thanks to a grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, the Fairmont State University School of Education, Health and Human Performance is partnering with TEKids to launch a new program designed to give West Virginia children 21st century Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills, plus life and career skills.

You could call the Town & Gown Players theatre trailblazers. When Fairmont State launched its summer theatre program in the summer of 1960, it was the first of its kind in West Virginia.

Jo Ann Lough and Lawrence Wallman of the Fairmont State (then College) Department of Speech and Dramatics led the launch of the Players that began with one production that year, the hit British comedy “The Reluctant Debutante,” directed by Lough.

Fairmont State University will host the 2015 Governor’s Honors Academy on its main campus in Fairmont on June 29 through July 19.

About 200 high school juniors will participate in the three-week residential program administered by the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts, which also assists with in-kind support. Dr. J. Robert Baker, Director of the Honors Program at FSU, will serve as dean. The theme of the 2015 GHA is “The Sustainable Life.”

In celebration of Fairmont State University’s Sesquicentennial, the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center has created an exhibit titled “On a Hill by a Dream,” which features FSU history, traditions and lore.

The title for the exhibition was taken from a poem by Louise McNeill, West Virginia’s former Poet Laureate who taught history at Fairmont State. The following quote is from her “Chestnut Orchard” (“Paradox Hill: From Appalachia to Lunar Shore”):

The Regional Healthcare Foundation, formerly the Fairmont General Hospital Foundation, presented a $10,000 donation to the Falcon Center Summer Day Camp at Fairmont State University on Thursday, May 28.

Dr. John Leon, Regional Healthcare Foundation Board Secretary, and Whitney Hatcher, Foundation Director, presented the donation to FSU President Maria Rose, Falcon Center Director Robin Yeager and Falcon Center Assistant Director Kevin Philyaw, who guides the operation of the camp.
