Welcome Weekend for new students at Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College begins on Thursday, Aug. 16. The program is designed to provide incoming freshmen with the information they need to start their college experience moving in the right direction. Classes for the fall 2012 semester begin Monday, Aug. 20 (Saturday classes begin on Saturday, Aug. 18).
The Inauguration of Fairmont State University’s 14th president, Dr. Maria C. Rose, will take place Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012.
The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at Colebank Hall Gym on the main campus of FSU in Fairmont. The event is open to the public. Fairmont State University is seeking comments from the public in preparation for its re-accreditation visit scheduled for Oct. 29-31, 2012.

In July, the Fairmont State University Town & Gown Summer Theatre will present the popular musical “South Pacific,” with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.
Continuing the longstanding tradition of high quality outdoor theatre performances at Prickett’s Fort State Park, Town & Gown Summer Theatre will honor veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces with special ticket prices and special recognition at each performance.
“Town & Gown Summer Theatre is an important educational, as well as entertaining, endeavor. The School of Fine Arts hires students from Fairmont State and other colleges and high school interns, and all learn to work as a team to bring about a successful production,” said Peter Lach, Dean of the School of Fine Arts. “Part of the University’s mission is to strengthen the educational, economic and cultural well-being of our region. The School of Fine Arts is proud to partner with Prickett’s Fort State Park to provide outdoor theatre for North Central West Virginia. We also are proud to salute our nation’s veterans through this summer’s production.”
On their shared main campus, Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College will host the Marion County Relay for Life on Friday, June 8.

Relay for Life is a great opportunity for our community to celebrate all those who have battled cancer and to remember lost loved ones. The Grand Feature Parade of the 2012 West Virginia Three Rivers Festival kicked off last evening in downtown Fairmont. Serving as honorary parade marshal was Fairmont State President Maria Rose.
With participants from around the area, the parade allowed the Fairmont community to celebrate all that makes Fairmont great.
