Folklife Center Hosts Tales of Two Liars

Two of West Virginia’s Biggest Liars join forces for a night of larger than life tales at the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center at Fairmont State University. Jacob Hall of Ripley (Biggest Liar 2016) and James Froemel of Morgantown (Biggest Liar 2015) will take the floor at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, to share stories of renegade possums, disastrous bowling trips and more. The program is family friendly and admission is $5.

Perry Baker the Right Person to Represent Community

FAIRMONT — In all of the excitement at Fairmont State University concerning Perry Baker’s run to the Olympics, two messages rang true in the thoughts of those wishing him luck in Rio.

First, the community is proud that it has an athlete headed to Rio to compete at the highest level.

Second, the community couldn’t be happier that it’s Perry Baker representing them.

FAIRMONT — Members of the Fairmont community gathered Thursday at the Falcon Center on the Fairmont State University campus to wish one of their own the best of luck as he makes his way to the Rio Olympics.

Perry Baker, a Daytona Beach, Florida, native who graduated from Fairmont State in 2013, will represent FSU and the United States as a member of the USA men’s Rugby sevens team in this year’s Olympics.

Governor's Honors Academy at FSU through July 16

Fairmont State University will host the 2016 Governor’s Honors Academy on its main campus in Fairmont through July 16.

About 200 high school juniors will participate in the three-week residential program administered by the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts, which also assists with in-kind support. Dr. J. Robert Baker, Director of the Honors Program at FSU, will serve as dean. The theme of the 2016 GHA is “Our Life in Common.”

FSU Concrete Canoe Team Places 12th in the Nation

Fairmont State University’s American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter continues its tradition of national excellence. For the 13th consecutive year, FSU represented the region at the ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition. This year, the team placed 12th in the nation overall, tying its previous best ranking, and broke a record in the women’s sprints with a ninth place finish.
