One of the highlights of Welcome Weekend is the Fairmont State University Convocation. During this traditional ceremony, faculty, staff and administrators officially welcome all new freshmen to Fairmont State. During the event, freshmen recite the Academic Pledge. FSU President Maria Rose said the ceremony is a perfect opportunity to make a lasting impression on new students. “Convocation is not only a ceremony to formally welcome new students to campus, it is also an opportunity to inspire and motivate them with the significance of the academic journey they are beginning.
The Office of International Student Services will host a Welcome Reception for International Students at the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms.
International students will be officially welcomed to the community and recognized for the new role they will play in our campus community.

The Inauguration of Fairmont State University’s 14th president, Dr. Maria C. Rose, will take place Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012.
The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at Colebank Hall Gym on the main campus of FSU in Fairmont. The event is open to the public. Dr. Matthew Hokom, Associate Professor of English at Fairmont State University, has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors for the Guardians of the West Fork Watershed, a non-profit organization centered in Marion, Harrison and Lewis counties in West Virginia.
