The 42nd Annual West Virginia State Mathematics Field Day was held April 29 and 30, 2016, at Fairmont State University in Fairmont. Operated and organized by the West Virginia State Mathematics Field Day Organization, the event was sponsored in part by the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium, the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics and Reasoning Mind.
Learning Options, Inc. is partnering with Fairmont State University artists and scientists to offer an innovative three-day workshop that blends art and science disciplines. The Falcon Center Summer Day Camp for children ages 6 through 12 provides games, sports, water activities and educational activities in one-week sessions from June 6 to July 29. Parents or guardians can register children for just one week or can pick and choose as many weeks as they want.
The Fairmont State University American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter has been named as a finalist for a prestigious international student chapter award.
As the Region 4 Distinguished Chapter, FSU’s ASCE Student Chapter is one of five finalists for the international Robert Ridgway Award. Region 4 includes West Virginia, Virginia, Indiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky.
Rehearsals are under way for Fairmont State University’s Academy for the Arts Youth Company spring productions. This semester the Academy will be offering two shows for one evening of family fun. Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh Kids,” performed by local kindergarten through fifth graders, and “James and the Giant Peach,” performed by area sixth through 12th graders, take the stage on Wallman Hall from May 19 through May 22.
Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology hosted the Bombardier and Pratt and Whitney Engine Services West Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair on April 2. Forty-eight high school students from 15 schools in West Virginia participated in the day focused on celebrating student research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Fairmont State University’s outstanding faculty members were recognized on Wednesday, April 27, during the Recognition of Faculty Achievement luncheon for their exemplary efforts throughout the 2015-2016 academic year.
