The Fairmont State Alumni Association will host its third annual “PNC Day at the Park” on Saturday, May 21, as the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the Detroit Tigers.
Lauren Adams, who graduated Cum Laude from FSU with an interdisciplinary degree in Studio Art and French in 2006, and obtained a B.F.A. in Visual Art from West Virginia University, has remained an active and successful painter ever since.
About 400 students will participate in Spring Commencement for Fairmont State University. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Feaster Center. A reception in the Falcon Center will immediately follow the ceremony.
The Fairmont State University Board of Governors has named Dr. Maria C. Bennett Rose as Interim President, and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission today approved the appointment.

With the passing of Dr. Naomi “Nicki” Boyers Hovatter, Fairmont State University has lost one of its most outstanding and oldest alumni. Hovatter, who died Friday, March 4, at age 103 was honored by the Fairmont State Alumni Association as Outstanding Alumna in 2008. At the Alumni Awards Luncheon that year, she shared some of her memories with those gathered and stated that she attributed her longevity to not resenting growing old and realizing that many are denied the privilege.
Our Accounting students, under the supervision of Dr. T. Jean Engebretson, are once again offering the popular IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) tax preparation services in Fairmont, Clarksburg, Parsons, Mannington, and other areas. The mission of the VITA Program is to provide free basic tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers. VITA provides students with hands-on learning of income tax preparation and it provides real life interaction with tax clients.
The annual School of Business Academic Awards and Scholarship Reception will be held on April 29, 2011 in the Falcon Center Conference Rooms. Each year the School of Business awards over a dozen student scholarships worth over $30,000 during this event. When possible, the donor is invited to attend the event to meet their scholarship recipient. This year the Information Systems Student Organization (ISSO) scholarship will be awarded for the first time.
On March 1, the School of Business hosted the annual Business Etiquette Dinner and Reception at Muriale’s Italian Restaurant in Fairmont. In today’s highly competitive business world, business isn’t just conducted within the confines of an office. Proper etiquette skills are extremely important for our students who must know how to conduct themselves and represent their company at the dining table and in other social settings, whether entertaining or being entertained.
