Women's Swimming Team Earns Academic Award

 Fairmont State's women's swimming team has been named a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

To qualify as a CSCAA Scholar All-America squad, teams must post a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the previous semester. Fairmont State had a team grade-point average of 3.12. The Falcons were one of 34 teams in NCAA Division II to qualify for the recognition.

Two FSU Students Attend Academic Seminar

Two Fairmont State University students attended an academic seminar hosted by The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars in Washington, D.C.  Logan Thorne, a political science major, and Nicole Allison, majoring in criminal justice, attended the “Top Secret: Challenges to National Security in a Global Society” seminar held May 15-21. The seminar is meant to provide students a guided experience of the national security landscape. Both students are members of the Honors Program.

Two FSU Students Named Finalists in Fiction Story Contest

Two Fairmont State University seniors have been named finalists in the 2011 West Virginia Fiction Writing Competition.  Michelle Yost, an English major from Shenandoah Junction, has been named one of the finalists. Her story is entitled “The Transformation of Acteon.” Shasta Gibson, also an English major from Buckhannon, is the other finalist in the competition. Her story is entitled “Waking the Bear.” These students are two of ten writers from across the state to be selected as finalists.
