FSU to Host State Science and Engineering Fair

The West Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair will take place on Saturday, March 23, at Fairmont State University.

Students in grades nine through 12 are eligible to enter. Last year, there were 66 participants from 16 high schools. There are 13 categories for the entries. Projects must be in one of the following areas: Behavioral & Social Science; Botany; Computer Science; Engineering; Mathematics; Microbiology; Zoology; Biochemistry; Chemistry; Earth & Space Science; Environmental Sciences; Medicine & Health; Physics.

Dr. Greg Noone Named 2012 Professor of the Year

Charleston, W.Va. – The Faculty Merit Foundation announced the winner of its 2012 Professor of the Year award on Tuesday, March 12. The Foundation presented the award to Gregory P. Noone, Ph.D., J.D., assistant professor of political science and law at Fairmont State University, during a banquet held in the Great Hall of the Culture Center in Charleston on Tuesday evening. Kenneth H. Yount, Ph.D., a political science and history professor at Alderson-Broaddus College, was first runner-up.

Dempsey Recognized for Contributions to Graduate Education

A Fairmont State University dean has been named as the 2013 recipient of the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools (CSGS) Award for Outstanding Contributions to Graduate Education in the Southern Region.

Dr. Van Dempsey, Dean of the School of Education, Health and Human Performance at FSU, was presented with the award on Feb. 23 at the 42nd CSGS Annual Meeting in Greenville, S.C.

Gift Dedicated to Memory of Sgt. Todd May

The family of the late Sgt. Michael Todd May, representatives of the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department and members of the Fairmont State University community gathered on Tuesday, March 5, for a ceremony to dedicate donations made in May’s memory.

“Todd’s entire life has been dedicated to helping others, through his work as a Deputy Sheriff and even in his death as an organ donor. Todd embodied the true meaning of being a civil servant,” said Sgt. J.E. Burks of the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department.

School of Business to Host 2013 Business Etiquette Dinner

In today’s highly competitive business world, business professionals must know how to conduct themselves and represent their company at the dining table and in other social settings.

To give students an opportunity to learn how to make a positive first impression, the School of Business is co-sponsoring a Business Etiquette Dinner on Wednesday, March 6, at the Robert H. Mollohan Research Center in the I-79 Technology Park in Fairmont. Other sponsors are the West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation and the Bridgeport Conference Center.

FSU Reads Enrichment Program Begins Feb. 26

The Fairmont State University Reads program is preparing for the spring reading enrichment program for elementary school students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Sessions will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 26, and will continue each Tuesday through April 16 from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Falcon Center on the main FSU campus.

Fairmont State students supervised by Sarah Williams, graduate assistant, have just completed an intense workshop/training period, working diligently to make this a successful reading experience for elementary students.
