Leadership Scholarship Program Overview
The College of Science and Technology Dean’s Leadership Scholarship is designed to enable and encourage academically talented individuals to pursue specific academic degrees in the fields of engineering, science, or technology at Fairmont State University. This scholarship will not exceed $2,000 per academic year, and it may only be awarded during the first two years of academic study. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic and leadership qualifications.

Eligible Students
To qualify for the College of Science and Technology Dean’s Leadership Scholarship, a student must meet the following selection and retention criteria:

• Be accepted as a major in one of the following Bachelor of Science/Arts degree programs within the College of Science and Technology at Fairmont State University: Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Security, Civil Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Occupational Safety, or Technology Education
• Have a cumulative High School GPA of at least 3.0
• Have an ACT (or SAT equivalent) score of 20 or greater in Math and Science
• Be continuously enrolled as a full-time student at Fairmont State University (i.e., minimum enrollment of 12 credit hours each semester)
• Be enrolled in at least 5 credit hours of required courses (not counting liberal studies, developmental, or elective courses) each semester with a major within one of the academic programs listed above
• Meet with an assigned academic advisor each semester and enroll in the classes specified by that advisor
• Successfully complete all required major courses with a 2.0 GPA or greater
• Maintain an overall 3.0 or greater GPA as a full-time student
• Become an active member in the College of Science and Technology Leadership Council

College of Science and Technology Leadership Council
The council will offer opportunities for students to participate in cultural, social, civic, leadership, and educational programs during their first two years at Fairmont State University. There will also be specific leadership development opportunities that will include seminars, community service, and service learning components. The leadership council is designed to enhance student skills as citizen-scholars. This will be accomplished by stressing awareness and development of individual potential, responsibility and accountability for one’s actions, appreciation and respect for human dignity and diversity, ethical development and value clarification, and by assisting students in making a successful transition as leaders in college to leaders within the community. Benefits of participation include:

• An academic scholarship for the first two academic years (i.e., awards in the amounts of $500.00, $1,000.00, or $2,000.00 per year)
• Opportunities to extend learning beyond the classroom
• Leadership development
• Opportunities for community service and service learning
• Recognition at the Academic Awards Celebration
• Certificate of participation

Participation Requirements
Each student selected for the College of Science and Technology Dean’s Leadership Scholarship will be expected to become an active member of the Leadership Council. This membership will require each student to become involved in:

• At least one service project within the College of Science and Technology
• Participation in at least one Registered Student Organization within the College of Science and Technology
• Attend monthly meetings of the Council
• Meet one on one with the Leadership Council Advisor during each semester
• Participate in recruitment and retention activities sponsored by the College of Science and Technology
