Fairmont State University is proud to participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program. This participation will allow veterans who choose to use their educational benefits through the Post 9/11 Chapter 33 GI Bill to have their tuition and fees paid whether they are in-state or out-of-state residents.
We have a full-time Veterans Certifying Official / Financial Aid Counselor assigned solely to Veteran students who can assist veterans with their educational benefits and financial aid. We also have an additional Financial Aid Counselor who can assist in this staff member’s absence. These staff members are very knowledgeable of all of the educational programs approved by the Veterans Administration (VA) and facilitates the process at the schools. These counselors can help veterans better understand how their benefits are applied and can assist them in applying for those benefits.
Veterans will need to apply online at www.gibill.va.gov for their Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Veterans will also need to complete the Veterans Certification Information Card each semester to receive their benefits at Fairmont State. This form will need to be printed, completed, and submitted to Students Services in Hardway Hall.
Students submitting a Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (Form DD214) or official military transcripts may be eligible for college credit. You are encouraged to submit these official documents as part of the application process. Veterans receive priority registration, and can take advantage or flexible scheduling.
