Admission & Registration Deadline

August 9 – Last day for new and readmitted students to be admitted.  All required material (application, transcripts, etc.) must be received in the office by August 9 (not postmarked).

August 16 – Last day for new and readmitted students to register for the fall term.

FIRST-TIME FRESHMEN

  • Notes:  For priority registration, make sure all the pieces of your admission file are in and complete six weeks prior to the start of the semester. Double-check the requirements of your program, some ask for applications much earlier.

At least a 2.0 high school GPA and an 18 ACT composite or 870 SAT composite (SAT combined Critical Reading and Math scores)

At least a 3.0 high school GPA and SAT or ACT composite regardless of score (Fairmont State may conditionally admit students who do not meet the basic admissions standards.)

Students must successfully complete the following minimum academic core requirements prior to admission:

  • 4 English (including courses in grammar, composition, and literature)
  • 3 Social Studies (including U.S. History)
  • 4 Mathematics (three units must be Algebra 1 and higher)
  • 3 Science (all courses to be college preparatory laboratory science, preferably including units from biology, chemistry and physics)
  • 1 Arts
  • 2 Foreign Language (Two units of the same foreign language)

ADVANCED PLACEMENT CREDITS

Fairmont State University recognizes certain examinations of the College Board Advanced Placement Program.  Students who participate in the AP program and wish to have their scores evaluated for credit should have their scores sent to the Office of Admissions.  Students cannot receive credit for a score below 3 on any exam.  Please refer to the Fairmont State Undergraduate Catalog for the list of examinations that are accepted for a grade of CR.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

(current high school student; not eligible for federal financial aid)

Must meet the following criteria:

  • Application for Admission
  • Completed his/her junior year of high school curriculum
  • Current high school transcript (must have grade point average of 3.0)
  • Permission letter from parent or guardian
  • Recommendation letter from the high school principal or counselor
  • Proof of pre-requisite (see catalog)

 

TRANSIENT STUDENT

(students enrolled at another school and returning to that institution)

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

  • Application for Admission (Must be received at least six weeks prior to semester start date)
  • Certified (official) English translation of your high school transcript
  • Official English proficiency scores (TOEFL of 61  or IELTS of 6.0) if your native language is not English
  • ACT or SAT Scores
  • Certified (official) English translation (by WES or SpanTran) of your college or university transcript(s)
  • Health form signed by a physician approved by U.S. Consular Authority (proof of immunization against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR))
  • Proof of financial support for the period of expected attendance
  • Proof of health insurance coverage
  • Meet general admission requirements of the institution

COMPETITIVE PROGRAM (Nursing)

A competitive program has a specific application deadline and limited admission. You must have a completed admissions file to be considered. A completed file includes:

  • Application for Admission
  • Program Application
  • Non-refundable program application fee
  • Official TEAS test scores
  • Official high school transcript or Official GED scores
  • Official college transcript from each institution attended
  • Seventh semester grades for high school applicants
  • Prerequisites (see catalog)
  • LPN transcript and copy of license if applicable
