OVERVIEW OF THE FRENCH PROGRAM
The French Program is designed to engage students in developing and perfecting their language skills through a broad scope of activities. Course work offers maximum interaction among students and between students and instructors, beginning with the first lesson. Comprehensive skills are enhanced with the use of audio tapes and compact disks, which allow students to sharpen their listening skills while working on their pronunciation. A variety of supporting materials, including French magazines, newspapers, literary pieces, and videos, contextualize study and develop students’ cultural awareness.
LEARNING FRENCH MAY LEAD TO EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS
In Education:
Adding French as a second teaching field or as a minor will increase students’ chances of a better job and a higher pay. More and more high schools and middle schools are hiring teachers who can teach two fields of specialization.
In English:
Majoring in French and English allows students to study comparative literature in a graduate school program and start an exciting academic career.
In Fine Arts:
Students’ studies and research in art history, music, fashion design, interior design, and architecture will lead students to France and its tremendous influence on the arts.
In Political Sciences:
French is the language of diplomacy. It is the official language of the European Union and the second language of the United Nations. French is spoken in 40 francophone countries.
In International Law, International Business and International Economics:
Students need a foreign language to be marketable and to apply to graduate school. The French Program can help you get an internship in an international French company or can help you apply to a study abroad program in your field of specialization.
Culinary Arts:
Considering the tremendous influence of French cuisine worldwide, knowledge of the French language would not only enhance the understanding of culinary terminology but provide wonderful opportunities for internship and employment.
