FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question:  How can I sign up for an online college course offered by Fairmont State?

Answer:     Sign up through your Training/Technician Coordinator by completing an

application for admissions, requested schedule form, both Math and English compass test or ACT/SAT test.

Question:  I took the English and Math compass 2 years ago and now want to                      register for a Math or English class.  Do I have to take the compass over?

Answer:     YES!  Effective 2007, you must re-take the compass test if your scores
                 are 2 years old.

 

Question:       I took classes at a previous institution.  Do I need an official transcript?

Answer:          YES!  You must have official transcripts sent to Fairmont State.   The transcript MUST be on file at Fairmont State before you can be registered for class.

 

Question:  I took a class last semester.  Do I need to complete another admission

                     application?

Answer:     No, if you completed a college class at Fairmont State the prior

                     semester, you don’t have to complete another admissions application. 

 

 

Question:  I have already taken ACT/SAT scores do I still need to take compass?

Answer:     No, but you must have an official copy sent to Fairmont State Admissions

                     before you can enroll in a college course.

 

 

Question:  I completed the online admissions application, but didn’t get into a class.

                     Why?

Answer:     If you complete an online admissions application you must print a copy and

                     give to your Technician/Training Coordinator.  You will also need to

                     complete compass test and the requested schedule form.

                    

 

Question:  I have completed CEU forms for training so do I complete a returning 

                     student application or a new admissions application?

Answer:     You must complete a new admissions application even if  you have completed

                     CEU forms for training.  You should only complete the returning student

                     application if you have already taken a college class at Fairmont State.

 

 

Question:  I have already taken college courses at another college. How can I transfer

                     these classes?

Answer:     You must have your previous institution send an official transcript to the DOH

                      Academic Advisor, who will then forward to the admissions office for an

                      official review.

 

 

Question:  How do I drop a course?

Answer:    The student is responsible for dropping a course. Go to the Fairmont State

                    homepage, quick links, and enrollment center. Log in and follow

                    instructions for dropping a course.

 

 

Question:  I never received my grade for the online class I completed. Why?

Answer:    The student is responsible for viewing their grade online at the end of the

semester.  Go to the Fairmont State homepage, quick links, and enrollment center. Log in and follow instructions to view grades.  Final grades are
usually posted approximately 2 weeks after the final exam.
