OVERVIEW OF THE SPANISH PROGRAM
The Spanish Program offers a four-year course of study leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree in either Spanish or Spanish Education. While both options require thirty-six credits or twelve courses, these include both elementary and upper level study, and advanced placement is possible for previous study and level of proficiency. Along with language skills, the Program emphasizes Hispanic culture and history in the United States, Latin America, and Spain.
Students who elect to minor in Spanish generally acquire fluency by the end of the required nine courses.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPANISH STUDENTS
As Spanish is now the second most-spoken language in the U.S., employment opportunities are significantly strengthened for majors. In EDUCATION, there is wide-spread need for Spanish teachers at all levels. In many settings, Spanish proficiency has become essential for placement in such professions as Social Work, Criminal Justice, Business and Banking, and Allied Health Areas.
