OVERVIEW OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT PROGRAM

The work environment has undergone drastic changes in the past few years. Among these changes is the role of the administrative support person in the workplace. This role has expanded into one that is broader in scope and requires more critical thinking, organizational, and decision-making abilities than ever before. Office automation and organizational restructuring have led administrative assistants to assume new and more responsibilities once reserved for mid-level management.

The administrative assistant must also be proficient in major computer applications found in suite software, such as word processing, desktop publishing, electronic presentations, spreadsheets, and database applications. The two-year Administrative Support program provides students with the updated skills and abilities that are expected of today’s office support personnel.

PROGRAM GOALS
The Administrative Support degree strives to provide students with an education that affords them:
    * Practical experience through a professional internship
    * Career exploration through personal and professional
       development opportunities
    * Technological knowledge through computer-assisted instruction
    * Ability to adapt and accept technological changes
    * Leadership and supervisory training which fosters individual growth
    * Continued pursuit of academic excellence in personal and
       professional lives
    * Opportunities to use critical thinking and decision-making strategies

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROGRAM GRADUATES

Graduates of the A.A.S. Administrative Support program find employment in schools, hospitals, corporate settings, government, or legal and medical offices.
