BUSINESS EDUCATION COMPREHENSIVE
Business Education is a professional field for people interested in teaching in a school system -- grades five to adult, junior or community college, or a vocational-technical center. Training is provided through a student teaching experience in the public school system. Graduates of this program also have the option of working in the business world.
The Business Education -- Comprehensive degree program of study is offered in conjunction with the School of Education and strives to provide graduates with the competencies needed to be qualified educators who are prepared to meet the needs of the public school systems and to gain an education that allows them to become
- effective teachers
- confident in possessing command of subject matter
- cognizant of changes in the economy
- leaders and supervisors who foster individual growth
- technologically knowledgeable of changes to utilize new teaching techniques
- certified teachers through state and national guidelines
Training is provided on up-to-date computer equipment in a classroom setting. This training allows individuals the opportunity to develop job-related skills while concurrently developing their roles and responsibilities toward society and the teaching profession. Emphasis is placed on proficiency through the student teaching experience. Students are placed in a public school setting for a 12-week period under the direct supervision of a public school cooperating teacher and college supervisor. This experience gives students the opportunity to use their knowledge and skills in a classroom setting.
Students graduate with a comprehensive Business Education degree. Graduates are qualified to teach business education classes at the middle school, high school, and technical school levels. Some of these include computer applications, word processing, keyboarding, office procedures, desktop publishing, economics, accounting, business law, business math, and database applications.
