MUSIC DEPARTMENT PROGRAM OUTCOMES
The music major requires the development of evaluative skills in teaching and performance. Upon completion of the music education program, students will:
- gain proficiency in reading and writing music notation.
- demonstrate the relationship among the elements of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, texture, timbre, dynamics, form.
- develop their ability to sing and to play musical instruments as individual and collaborative performers.
- increase their aural and listening skills. analyze and interpret musical scores, both vocal and instrumental.
- acquire historical perspective of musical genres and style periods.
- demonstrate techniques of vocal/choral and instrumental pedagogy.
- acquire skills in conducting choral and instrumental music.
- apply music technology using software programs, keyboards, and recording equipment.
- identify relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
- advocate the function of music in local, national and global cultures.
- synthesize and apply philosophies of music education.
