9. .Alverno College Faculty (1994). Student assessment as learning at Alverno College. Milwaukee: Alverno College Institute.

Gives a great overview of assessment from the course level to the program level plus provides a systemic approach to assessment. The book gives good examples from various content areas and includes student self-assessment and perspectives. (available in the CTE)

10.  Butler, N. D. & McMunn, N. D. (2006). A teacher's guide to classroom assessment: Understanding and using assessment to improve student learning. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass.

The major focus is on how to design quality performance tasks and scoring guides, but it also provides guidance on setting standards-based learning targets, analyzing assessment data, and using instructional strategies to provide effective feedback to students. (on order for CTE)

11.  Huba, M. E., & Freed, J. E. (2000). Learner-centered assessment on college campuses: Shifting the focus from teaching to learning. Boston: Allyn and Bacon.

Excellent book. Explains assessment process in its entirely and types of assessment, including direct and indirect. It also gives plenty of examples. (available in the CTE)

12.  Mezeske, R. J., & Mezeske, B. A. (Eds.). (2007). Beyond tests and quizzes: Creative assessments in the college classroom. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass.

This book offers examples of creative, theory-based, practical assessment techniques from professors in a range of disciplines. (on order for CTE)

13.  Stevens, D. D., & Levi, A. J. (2005). Introduction to rubrics: An assessment tool to save grading time, convey effective feedback, and promote student learning. Sterling, VA: Stylus.

This is a book faculty can't be without if they plan to assess students through alternative assessment techniques. It explains rubrics, their purposes, and types; gives detailed explanations on construction of rubrics; and offers examples from many disciplines. (available in the CTE)
