Internal Systems is charged with maintaining the administrative systems at Fairmont State.  The major systems that we support include the student system (recruiting, admissions, registration, grading, and academic history), student financial aid, finance (accounting, procurement, accounts payable, and budget), and human resources (payroll and benefits).

Most of these systems are part of the Banner package that was purchased from Sungard Higher Education.  Banner Finance went live January 2001.  Student and Financial Aid went live for the fall term of 2003.  The Human Resources module is current being implemented with an anticipated payroll go-live date of January 2008.

We also maintain Cardworks and the Blackboard Envision system.  These systems, along with an integration process with Banner, produce the ID cards and handle the card swipe transactions.

Another service we provide is database administration of the underlying Oracle databases for both Banner and Envisions.  The WebCT Vista online learning environment is also based on an Oracle database that we also maintain.

We have written over 370 custom processes and reports in addition to the baseline Banner product.  For example, we have a custom interface with the WV State Auditor’s office to pass payment transactions back and forth in order to pay our vendors.  We also have added functionality to Banner self-service for the online collection of student payments.

We are currently running our largest Oracle databases on Linux servers.  The smaller Envision database currently resides on a Windows server.  The Banner middleware web servers are currently running on two windows servers.  The Banner programs run on an OpenVMS based Compaq (now HP) system.  The current payroll system is also running on an OpenVMS based system.
