CERTIFICATION EXAM GUIDELINES

Microsoft Office Specialist Certification (formerly known as MOUS) is a globally recognized standard of computer software competency. Certification provides formal recognition and evidence of knowledge and expertise of individual mastery of Office applications. It also provides an official resume-building standard that often results in increased productivity, job advancement, higher salaries, and increased job satisfaction.

Pierpont Community and Technical College of Fairmont State University offers Microsoft Office Specialist Certification exams through Certiport, the exclusive developer and administrator of the Microsoft Office Specialist program for Microsoft Corporation. The following exams are available:

Word             - Core and Expert

Excel             - Core and Expert

Access         - Core

PowerPoint - Comprehensive

Outlook        - Core

Project         - Core 

Each exam is timed for 45 to 60 minutes and includes 30 to 40 questions. The exams use "live" or real applications in the actual software. Skills required for each exam are available upon request or on Certiport's website: www.certiport.com.

ELIGIBILITY

• Anyone is welcome to take the certification exams.

• Pierpont Community and Technical College students enrolled in a Business Technology program of study are strongly encouraged to attempt the exams as they complete courses in which the skills are taught.

COST

• The cost for each exam is $65 for students; $75 for non-students.

• Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community and Technical College students enrolled in the WIA (Workforce Investment Act) program may request funding through that program. Eligible students should contact Brenda Davis at 367-4907 or 367-0591 to seek funding with WIA.

• Pierpont Community and Technical College students enrolled in an associate degree business program (Accounting, Administrative Support, General Business, Information Systems) may have the exams funded through Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education funds. Eligible students should contact:
