EMT-M Course Overview

The 60 hour Emergency Medical Technician-Mining (EMT-M) course provides an individual with the knowledge to provide basic emergency care during the first phases of an emergency.  The Emergency Medical Technician-Mining’s primary responsibility is to bring expert emergency medical care to victims of emergencies within the mining environment and to safely transfer their care to Emergency Medical Personnel for transportation to the proper facility.  Duties are performed unsupervised, in a great variety of circumstances, and often under considerable physical and emotional stress.  The actions taken can mean the difference between life and death of the victim.  The West Virginia EMT-M course is based upon portions of the United States Department of Transportation curriculum, the national standard for emergency medical technicians across the nation.
