Student performance with respect to this outcome will be measured by:

Satisfactory student performance on the direct assessment measure will consist of:

1. Perform American Sign Language (ASL)  Performance assessments will be completed through video tapes.  Minimum of 70% degree of accuracy and fluency.*
2. Demonstrate unique skills required for interpreting in specialized settings, applying their preferred sign language.

Assessment will be conducted in class through role play activities and videotaped assignments.

Minimum of 70% degree of accuracy and fluency.*
3. Explain the role of the interpreter/transliterator to both deaf and hearing consumers of interpreting services. Method of measurement will be conducted through written or computerized tests, in class discussions, and journals.  Minimum of 70% degree of accuracy and fluency.*
4. Describe/discuss the missions and roles of various agencies/organizations that serve the deaf community. Method of measurement will be conducted through written or computerized tests, in class discussions, and journals.   Minimum of 70% degree of accuracy and fluency.*

Student performance with respect to this outcome will be measured by:

Satisfactory student performance on the direct assessment measure will consist of:

1. Identify specific vocabulary within registers.

Assessment will be completed through videotapes, class activities, and lab work.

Minimum of 70% degree of accuracy and fluency. *

2. Demonstrate appropriate social behavior when interacting with members of the Deaf community.

Assessment will be done through weekly journals and quizzes.

Minimum of 70% degree of accuracy and fluency. *

3. Identify and discuss issues relating to the Deaf community and culture in America, including the history of and famous people.

Student’s knowledge will be assessed through online discussions, written tests, written assignments, and a research paper.

Minimum of 70% degree of accuracy and fluency. *

* The ITP is a competitive program; students with the ASL certificate will be eligible to compete for available slots.

  • Discuss/describe the hallmarks of the Deaf community, including the evolution of “deafness” to the modern concept of Deaf culture;

  • Perform American Sign Language (ASL) with a minimum of 50% degree of accuracy and fluency*
